Shireen & Rob, I would like to thank you for your fantastic Wedding Photography workshop, last week in Sydney.
I totally enjoyed your passion for photography, love of people and inspiration to pursue a dream, despite adversity. I am still amazed at how much we covered in that one day, from the technical aspects of photography, creative wedding lighting and photography, business tips as well as Photoshop techniques to transform pictures into artistic images. It was so much fun and was worth so much more to experience your inspirational teaching!!!
While my professional photography business is still in its early days, I will certainly remember the gems that you have shared and aim to use them to build a great foundation for my business.
Look forward to be part of future training.

SECRETS OF SUCCESS

Art is all very well, but it won’t pay the rent.

“There is a general belief among many of the younger people coming into the profession that the secret of success is totally vested in the quality of their pictures. They look at the photographs applauded at the National Print Awards and imagine their creators make a living from them. But those pictures are often show rather than dough images. They are made to impress judges, other photographers and those few clients who are visually sophisticated, and are not what the business of people photography is all about.

The person who realizes this and who organises his procedures, himself and his time, and conducts his business efficiently and with good humour,is the one who will survive. The product, provided it is reasonable and competitive in price is largely irrelevant.

Photography should be a business conducted by those who want to make pictures which delight and satisfy their customers.

That commitment will lead to other areas of concern, such as how to get the business, how to keep the business; how to create a selling environment; How to impress yourself upon your community and how to be profitable in a small business, how to fund that business, and, most importantly, how to organize yourself.”

- Comment from an Australian legendary wedding portrait photographer Ian Hawthorne.

Ian Hawthorne, a much loved and admired photographer from Geelong passed away aged 85. His book ‘One mans eye – A decade of people – Geelong 1980 – 1990’ has some of the best environmental portraits ever made in this country. For the past 10 or so years the Victorian Division of the Australian Institute of Professional Photography has made an annual award named after Ian Hawthorne for an emerging photographer demonstrating excellence in their craft.

TESTIMONIALS
Hi Bernie,
I bumped into you at the PMA on Friday and told you how your course has made a huge impact to our studio and you asked for it in writing so here it is…...
‘Since attending Bernie’s portrait course in Newcastle last year, our average studio sale has more than tripled. We now complete $3000 and $4000 sales regularly. Bernie gave us the confidence and drive to introduce a complete new range of products, to view our studio as a retial store and realise that the system we had in place didn’t have the capacity to grow with our business.  Now we have customers swiping credit cards through with thousands of dollars worth of products yet leaving with a huge smile on their face, knowing they have invested into the history of those who aren’t even born yet. Attending the course has certainly changed the future of our business and was certainly the best investment we have made to date’.
Thanks again Bernie…
Maree Nichols - Studio Manager, ric woods photography.

“Since Bernie took me under his wing!...so to speak… in Nov 2009, I have gone from no studio/ no bookings/no marketing, to a sophisticated studio with SYSYEMS, BOOKINGS AND sales starting from $500 from each sitting!! Just incredible when I thought about throwing the towel in last year and it was just too overwhelming, now it’s awesome.
I know I have a lot to learn, but already I feel I’m living my 5 year dream of running a successful Studio in the very competitive Sydney market…WITH A TODDLER in TOW!!!!...hhhmmm!
Thanks a million Bernie & Wendy! xoxoxoxo”

I recently completed the workshop, Getting Started in Wedding Photography, organised by the Australian School of Wedding and Portrait Photography and led by Bernie Griffiths. The course is broken up into 3 broad sections namely camera craft, taking wedding photos, and the business of wedding photography. Using this framework, and through Bernie’s expert insight, we were able to gain a much better appreciation for the importance of understanding your camera’s functions and capabilities; recognising the key shots that thoroughly document a wedding ceremony; and learn about the role of marketing and pricing in any wedding business. Overall I felt Bernie did a fabulous job in equipping us with all the elementary and necessary skills required to undertake a successful wedding assignment in a highly competitive market. His teaching method is mostly interactive and the workshop provides tonnes of inspiration to any aspiring wedding photographer who is thinking seriously about turning their photographic passion and vision into business reality. I thoroughly recommend the introductory wedding photography workshop with the ASWPP and Bernie Griffiths, and personally I cannot wait to undertake his other workshop – Posing and Lighting.
Regards
Frank Cecconi
Thanks Bernie.
